Why we built nafs
it started with a conversation. a few of us sitting around one evening, frustrated, talking about the apps we used for our deen. one for the Quran, one for prayer times, one for dhikr, another for tracking a cycle, and almost all of them crowded with ads or grabbing data they never needed. the more we talked, the more it bothered us. our deen deserved better than this.
the idea began as something small. a private, gentle companion app for Muslim women. then a few brothers got to try early builds, and they wanted in too. so we opened it up and built it for everyone, alhamdulillah.
half of everything supporters contribute goes to humanitarian relief across Sudan, Congo, Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. because nurturing your soul means nurturing the ummah too.
Our values
privacy first
your data stays on your device. we don't sell your information, we don't run ads, and we never will. journal entries, cycle data, prayer logs, reflections. all of it stays with you. encrypted on-device, never uploaded to our servers. privacy is a promise.
beautiful by design
we believe spiritual tools should feel as intentional as the acts of worship they support. every screen, every animation, every interaction is placed with care. we want you to feel something when you open nafs. peace, warmth, presence.
community over profit
half of all supporter contributions go directly to humanitarian relief. we chose this model from day one because building something for the ummah means giving back to the ummah. we grow together, or not at all.
built with ihsan
excellence in everything we do, because our work is an act of worship too. we sweat the small things. the font spacing, the haptic feedback, the way a page transitions. we build as if Allah is watching, because He is.
Giving back
this was part of the vision from the beginning. if we were going to build something for the ummah, it had to give back to the ummah. 50% of all contributions go directly to humanitarian relief.
we partner with vetted organizations working on the ground across Sudan, Congo, Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia. our current partners include ICNA Relief, Life for Relief and Development, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Baitulmaal, Muslim Aid, Helping Hand (HHRD), Human Appeal, and Islamic Relief Worldwide.
every contribution helps feed families and bring medical care to communities on the ground. that's the nafs promise. when you support nafs, your money goes to two places: building better tools for your deen, and standing with those who need it most.
with love, the nafs team
